Special Abbreviations
dc2tog = double crochet two together [Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over
and pull up loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops] 2 times,
yarn over, draw through all loops on hook.
BLO = Back Loop Only
Sc = single crochet
dc = Double Crochet

Crochet Hook:
5mm [US H-8].
Yarn needle, pompom maker
GAUGE:
12 dc = 4”; 8 rounds = 4”.
CHECK YOUR
GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.



Hat Brim

With Brim color White Chain 9 (Ch 11 for teenager or adult)
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn - 8 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, working in BLO, sc in each ch across.
Repeat row until piece measures 18” (for a small child, 19-20 for a teen or adult) from beginning

Crown

Round 1: With ride side facing out, join White with a slip st along one long side of the brim,
work sc 60 (66) sts evenly spaced around, slip st to rst st to join. fasten o and cut
Round 2: Attach Red yarn, ch 2 (counts as rst dc) dc in each st around, slip st to top of the
beginning ch to join.
Round 3-4 for toddler or small child [3-6 for teenager or adult] dc in each st around,
slip st to top of beginning ch to join.
Round 5[7]: ch 2, *[dc2tog, dc in next 8 (9) dc] repeat * till end of row, slip st to top of beginning ch (54)
Round 6[8]: ch 2, repeat round 2 (dc in every stitch around)
Round 7[9]: ch2, *[dc2tog, dc in next 7 (8) dc) repeat * until end of row, slip st to top of beginning ch. (48)
Round 8 [10]: ch 2, repeat round 2 (dc in every stitch around)
Round 9 [11]: ch 2, *[dc2tog, dc in next 6 (7) dc) repeat * until end of row, slip st to top of beginning ch. (41)
Round 10 [12]: ch 2, repeat round 2 (dc in every stitch around)
Round 11 [13]: ch 2, *[dc2tog, dc in next 5 (6) dc) repeat * until end of row, slip st to top of beginning ch. (34)
Round 12 [14]: ch 2, repeat round 2 (dc in every stitch around)
Round 13 [15]: ch 2, *[dc2tog, dc in next 4 (5) dc) repeat * until end of row, slip st to top of beginning ch. (27)
Round 14 [16]: ch 2, repeat round 2 (dc in every stitch around)
Round 15 [17]: ch 2, *[dc2tog, dc in next 3 (4) dc) repeat * until end of row, slip st to top of beginning ch. (20)
Round 16 [18]: ch 2, repeat round 2 (dc in every stitch around)
Round 17 [19]: ch 2, *[dc2tog, dc in next 2 (3) dc) repeat * until end of row, slip st to top of beginning ch. (13)

Using darning needle sew remaining stitches and gather, attach pom pom! weave in ends
