Puff stitch messy bun hat

Here is an easy puff stitch messy bun hat for everyone to try and share :) 
I made it out of a lion heart brand yarn

1 skein

5mm hook

Darning needle

Abbreviations 

Ch - chain

Pf - puff stitch

SC-SINGLE crochet 

Sl st - slip stitch

Sts - stitches

Puff stitch - insert hook into stitch, yarn over pull up a loop about 1/2" long' yarn over, insert hook again to pull up another loop 1/2" long yarn over, insert hook one last time to pull up a loop 1/2" long, yarn over pull that loop through all the remaining 5 loops on your hook to secure the puff stitch.

To start chain 24, slip stitch to complete the round (be careful not to twist)

 Round 1: SC into each stitch, sleep stitch to complete the round, be sure not to twist

 Round 2: Make one puff stitch in each stitch around, slip stitch to end the row (24 total puff stitches )

Round 3: Make 1 pf stitch in the first 3 gap spaces (between the previous rows puff stitch), make 2 pfs in the next space. *Make 1 pf stitch in the next 3 ch 1 gap spaces, make 2 pfs in the next space. Repeat from * and join with a slst. (30 sts)

Round 4: Make 1 pf stitch in the first 4 gap spaces, make 2 pfs in the next space. *Make 1 pf stitch in the next 4 ch 1 gap spaces, make 2 pfs in the next space. Repeat from * and join with a slst. (36 sts)

Rounds 5-13: Make 1 pf stitch into each gap space. Join with a slst to complete each round. (36 sts)

Round 14: ch1, SC into each stitch around, slip stitch to complete the round

Round 15-16: repeat round 14, fasten off

For the single crochet portion you may switch to a smaller hook to create a tighter band
