Project Bag / Pencil Case
Project Bag is a great place to store a project that you are currently working on, keeps eveything together and prevents you from loosing your needles!, and if you are anything like me and you have a few projects on the go at any given time you can keep them well organized and easy to find!
This is a super easy project, ive never really worked with zippers for fear of just screwing up completely but this was so easy i dont know why i havent tried sooner!
the Fox fabric measures 7 1/2" x 10 1/2"
and the strips of Orange fabric are 2 1/2" x 10 1/2
the lining is
9 1/2 x 10 1/2
The half accounts for 1/4" seam allowance
Zipper is about 12" but any size zipper will work as long as its longer then your project size!
This is a Cotton Fabric that i picked up at Joann fabrics
Step 1 - Attach the strip of orange at the bottom of your pattern fabric
Putting right sides together sew a straight line using a 1/4" seam allowance
Once done, open flat and press with an Iron
Then do a top stitch about 1-2mm away from the solid fabric
This just finishes off that seam and makes it look more finished.
Do this for both sides of the Bag as show in the next photo
Place the pattern fabric down right side facing up, place the Zipper on the long edge face down, then place the Lining on top of it making sure its right sides together
<--- Refer to photo
This is what it should look like
Now Attach the other side of the bag the same way
Make sure they are right sides together and if you have a one way fabric all the pieces are facing the right way
Then lay it flat and top stitch
2 or 3 mm next to the Zipper to give it a more finished look
Putting the right sides of the fox fabric together and the right sides of the lining fabric together with the zipper inside, sew all around the whole bag while leaving a 4 inch spot for turning in the lining
You will sew over top of the Zipper at this point, if its a larger zipper then you will cut off the excess zipper, if the zipper fits perfectly then be very careful not to hit the metal stopper, before Sewing the entire bag be sure to pull down the zipper half way and this will help when turning otherwise it could be a little difficult.
From here i measured 1" in from each corner and drew a line from each point
Sew along this line
Clip off the corner with scissors
Now its time to turn!
using the hole you left for turning, turn the bag right side out, before putting the lining back into the bag be sure to top stitch the whole close and then tuck it back into the bag.
And then your done! make a few to have on hand for impending projects!, make some for your kids for art supplies and crayons, great for travel and make up or small toiletries!
